H. L. Mencken: “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”
Be afraid. Be very afraid. The planet is dying and humans are killing it. You should be ashamed of your behavior. Your sins must be punished. The gods must be appeased.
Climate science sounds more like the movie or old time religion than the study of facts. Fear dominates this most reckless of poor disciplines. When the facts don’t fit an hypothesis, science changes the hypothesis. Climate science practitioners change the facts.
Now they are threatening legal action against climate change deniers. The Attorney Generals of six states, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the federal government announced “an unprecedented coalition of top law enforcement officials committed to aggressively protecting and building upon the recent progress the United States has made in combating climate change.”
Law suits are promised against ExxonMobil, CEI, and any others who have attempted to interfere in the “fight against climate change.”
This is not the scary part. Most of the citizenry of the United States supports such action. The 4th Amendment to the Constitution notwithstanding, certain people need to be punished.
H. L. Mencken: “The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out… without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.”The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out. — H L Mencken Click To Tweet The thinking man concludes that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable. — H L Mencken Click To Tweet
